A few weeks of Crazy

June 3, 2011 at 7:29 pm | Posted in General ( day to day stuff), Knitting, Work | 1 Comment

Oh where the hell to start with my post, the first bit of Crazy news of which i can’t divulge too much due to work policy but i’ve designed a garment for a Sublime book and got it accepted by the head designer how cool it that. I will be able to tell you more once it’s out on the shelves which is quite a while from now but it still ace to be able to tell you all I’ve done a design for such a great company. It’s so exciting I’m most excited just to see it knit up.

Second piece of crazy news I’m going in order here because it makes sense to me. Mine and Pete’s friend Leigh and his missus Amanda have just had a beautiful baby girl which is brilliant news which means silly auntie Nessa is going baby cardigan crazy and is starting a new one for the little one tonight while watching the television. I’m also making the sweetheart a little blanket that can get bigger as she does.

I’d started this little blanket after I’d started doing one of my own which is growing to be quite sizable, it’s made only using Sublime DK yarns which i buy from work and have been saving since i started.

This one is mine, I’m using every colour i can get my hands on. It’s growing so much that at some point soon I’ll need more than one ball to get round but i love it so much, this blanket will be a center piece of the living room resting over the sofa i believe or on the bed.

Third BIG News is me and Pete are engaged which happen on Monday afternoon at home in our living room, there’s no plans of getting married just yet but we are going out for a meal with the family to celebrate and we will have to start saving soon enough.

I have also finished a beautiful Cardigan for a Insha, pete’s cousin’s daughter that i love, it’s actually a Sirdar tiny tot’s pattern but i used baby bamboo which is lovely and soft and the pattern looks super in this yarn.

These past few weeks have been very busy but great. I’ll keep you posted :)

Jackson sweater and a crochet endeavor

Hey people it’s been a while the Jackson sweater has been completed but i over estimated the neck measurements it hang just over the shoulders rather than resting on so I’ve re drawn the neck up with new measurements and will have to rip back and alter it before writing the pattern up, it needs to be correct for photographing so you all can see what your knitting. other than that i’ve had a busy time at work and my birthday last weekend which i wasn’t very well for due to a swollen gland which is a lot better that it was also hurt my thumb, i was separating two shopping baskets when getting groceries and caught my nail on the edge of the basket when loosening them and instead of the nail bending back it was too tough and tore from the skin under my nail and so I’ve had a swollen thumb all week thankfully it’s feeling much better. On Saturday while i waited for the clock to turn for my birthday at midnight i learn’t how to make granny squares and was making them till 2am which was awesome i’ve now got a collect of about 20 squares in lovely sublime merino silk dk yarns in beautiful colours i’m either making a blanket or a top for summer we’ll see.

Happy New Year!

I find New Years Eve to be my loneliest time of the year mainly due to my partner ‘Pete’ goes to work at the bar in town. I’m usually left amongst my friends for the entire evening which I was for a short while but decided to come home. I couldn’t face another new year watching them hugging and kissing as the clock ticks over into 2011. So 11pm hit and I came home to work on one of my new designs which I’m knitting at the moment from graph. I’ll be writing and charting up the pattern when it’s ready. I’ve been working for Sirdar know for a good half of the year which is going successful. I’m learning so much about pattern writing that I want to make my next pattern as professional as possible so I set out a plan. First the sketching and swatching then the graphing and knitting and third the writing and photographing and fourth maths check and proof reading and fifth making the pdf for you all. It’s a long process for one person but through learning all these things at work, I can finally make my own beautiful designs unlike my other beginner patterns this will be more interesting and in sizes which will be wonderful for you all. I’m currently knitting my new design so I’m at stage two so it will probably be a while till i reach stage five. However the pattern is knitting up wonderfully, I’ve already thought of a name. I’m naming it Jackson after one of my friends, I kind of like the idea of naming knitwear for girls with male names so this maybe start of a theme appearing. We will see. I’ll keep you posted on the sweater once i have more news.

Well Christmas what a busy time. Did you get anything nice? I received a wonderful yarn winder and umbrella swift from Pete, what a super present I’ve been wanting one all year although know I have one I haven’t got any skeins of yarn. This does however give me an excuse to get more, which i love. I also got a number of books The ultimate Knitting Bible which i wanted mainly as a reminder of the different types of sewing it’s easy to remember at work because i work with a lot of ladies who have sewn up sweaters for years but i haven’t and sometimes need a few guided images till i twig on to what i already know. Also got Knitting 24/7 which as a lot of wonderful patterns and my first vogue stitchtionary with cable stitch patterns although the book i absolutely love it. Also something new to try and possibly get frustrated with a lace bobbin kit to take my creative hand to, I’m not sure if trying it is a good idea so for the minute till i feel confident and so i don’t lose half of the kit it’s staying firmly in the box it came in.

Anyway I’m going to get off it’s starting to get a little late but Happy New Year all and Happy Knitting in 2011

Don’t Appreciate being ill.

November 6, 2010 at 2:52 am | Posted in General ( day to day stuff) | Leave a comment

Had busy few weeks which mean no posting unfortunately, alot of work at work it’s a very challenging job that i love very much. Over the last few days i’ve been very ill with a dreaded cold i slept more hours than i’d have wished to yesterday. I was awake for about 5 hours in total i felt that ill i wasn’t very happy. I’ve been resting up today but found that much sleep yesterday has messed with my sleeping pattern a tad. Although i’m feeling abit better after the rest. I’ll keep the rest up and should be back to normal soon. Nessa x

Shaping The Horizon

September 28, 2010 at 1:29 pm | Posted in General ( day to day stuff), Knitting | Leave a comment

I’ve spent most of the day swatching samples at work and changing a few mathmatical tension error’s on a button band. Thankfully after a few hours got passed the problem and now i’m speeding ahead with some collar shaping. Although i’ve graphed some of them out it’s sometimes far easier to see how they work by knitting them. So for most of the morning i’ve been knitting shawl collar increases to see which works best. I know i’ll be spending a good few hours testing some short row shaping for the collar so it will lay flat over the top of the shoulder and shape around the neck. I’m rather enjoying how my samples are turning out and my tension looks tons neater on these tiny pieces of knitting.

I’m planning to finish the yoke decreases tonight on my baby sweater and then i can print it and knit the garment to show off at some point in the furture. I may ownly give you a small sneeky preview up until them :)

Eventful weekend

September 27, 2010 at 7:51 pm | Posted in General ( day to day stuff), Knitting | Leave a comment

The weekend for me ended up quite packed with people to visit and receiving visits. This resulted in not as much knitting happening as i would have liked. Friday night after work I stayed in due to the drop in temperature, i preferred to snuggle up next to the heater and knit the evening happily away. I Knit some further rows of my blythe shrug/cardigan, I’m now nearing the end of the second sleeve. I keep trying on the other sleeve because i love hows it’s coming along, Blythe will look even better with buttons on. I slept in on saturday but spent a few hours in the afternoon casting on a garter stitch mindless scarf in the now discontinued Sublime kid mohair, which is beautiful to knit with I got a good 14 inches done. Saturday night i went out for a drink with friends and got very drunk (i don’t normally drink), which didn’t take much. We all had a good celebration and then went back home at about 12:30pm which i then proceeded to pass out on my couch at home a few hours later lol!!. Sunday i also got up later with a small headache which went after a 3 hours and 5 coffees lol!! We then visited a few friends i also managed to pass out for a while there too. I must have been very tired, I’ve also been enduring the snooker on t.v. all week which is like a chore to watch, i believe it’s as bad as ironing which i very rarely do also. All round though my weekend was super and appreicated. Nessa xx

Meret Beret

September 23, 2010 at 9:06 pm | Posted in Knitting | 1 Comment

I casted on the Meret beret a few days ago, mainly due to having a few days off work, A few days later it looks great. I casted it off last night before bed after finishing the decreasing to the crown. Then sewn in the ends, I don’t have anything great to block berets and this being a large one my plates weren’t really big enough but they worked better than originally thought.  I think that using a bigger plate may have caused some trouble as it may have stretched out the ribbing too much and i don’t want the edging to be too saggy before I’ve even worn it.

It looks lovely though, Don’t you think?

Also found a great bargain at work, I’m not gonna tell you how much for cos it’s discontinued and too good that your ears might bleed. However i got to purchase two bags with 20, 25g balls in each bag of sublime kid mohair. One bag in a white shade and another bag in a green shade. I can make a good 3  items out of one bag so this my ultimate love at the moment. I can’t help but get it out of the bags and rub it’s soft fiber over my face it’s going to be turned into some super projects.

Childish i know but I’m a classic 80′s child as my moomin tattoo has already proved. I could help but purchase the masters of the universe intarsia sweater charts . I’m not looking forward to the intarsia but the sweaters I’m going to make will be totally awesome.  Thankfully it’s not the 80′s for sweater shaping and therefore can make a better shaped sweater for them to go on rather than just the standard drop shoulder.

I’ve also got a new pattern to write, so far it’s going okay with no real problems which makes me feel more at ease knowing I’m not going to be stuck.

See you all soon Nessa x

Forgetting to be a show off!

September 12, 2010 at 9:35 pm | Posted in Knitting | 1 Comment

For some strange reason while sorting out the new seasons clothing and getting my sweaters out and ready. I realized after picking up my owls sweater by Katie Davis that i never posted you any photo’s of how it turned out. I know what your thinking ‘ how did you finish the sweater and not think to show us photo’s, how dare you’.  Well ever since i finished it in April so many months ago it’s been resting away with all my sweaters as it was spring/ summer there was no real need to get it out. Even when packing it away it didn’t really occur to me too take pictures of the handy work full completed. Later rather than never i decided it was time, I hadn’t even noticed until looking on Ravelry how long ago the project had been finished.

The yarn was a Bargain i auctioned for on Ebay and won for £6 there was 880 grams and i still have two balls of this lovely chunky Shetland for  another project which is always nice.

I’m slowly but surely getting further on the swallowtail shawl although i’ve made some mistakes and ripped back and re knit the thing. I’ve still managed to make the same error again so i decided to ignore it and carry on it’s not a gift which makes it okay. If i can deal with the mistake then thats okay. Some ladies at work would probably say different. I think if it’s not too bad, after a few rows it’s turned out okay it’s just one pattern repeat that messed up a little on one side. I’m tired of doing the pattern repeat so I’m certainly not going back again it’s very long work is this shawl and I’d  prefer to get it finished now than drag it on for a small error.

once it’s complete i’ll take a picture for you but don’t look too hard at it!

The Jamiesons spindrift is lovely to knit up and has some beautiful colours in a lot of weights.

I’m going to go now and carry on knitting up my Blythe short cardigan/shrug. Night
